Scene Three
In the Dress Rehearsal’s
conclusion, construction scaffold emerges from the wall. A continuously cycling orange air pump is
connected to a tall vinyl bag by a long tube; 10 pound bags of oranges are
visible anchoring corn hole boards. TV
trays with faux wood veneer are installed in the foreground as if they were a functional
multi-channel video.
An air pump regulates the pressure in a vinyl bag, keeping the veneer in place so it can be mounted to a substrate. This scene restages the construction process, making the privacy of the woodshop public and foregrounding equipment that would not seem out of place in the address’s previous incarnation as a gay male sex club.
